Torres the new Owen?

Premier League Liverpool

Like a lot of people I'm starting to worry about Fernando Torres' hamstrings. His explosive style of play seems to wreak havoc with his hamstrings, which has also resulted in the downfall of Michael Owen. While Owen is still a great finisher he's not half the player he once was. Without his lightning pace, he no longer scares defenders and has had to reinvent himself as a footballer. Rather than playing on the shoulder of the last man he now drops a lot deeper and thus very rarely gets in behind.

I fear this could happen to Torres if his current injury problems continue. I'm not for one minute saying we should sell Torres as he's one of the best strikers on the planet, I'm merely expressing my concerns over the longevity of his career given the way he plays the game.

Does anyone else share the same concerns or do you think his recent epilogue of injures is just bad luck?

Gerrard, 10 years and even more committed

"It's only as you get older though that you realise how important playing for Liverpool is," he admitted.

"You cannot grasp that when you are setting out, so maybe that is why I look at things a bit differently.

"Looking back, I'm pleased how I have reacted. From the bad tackles and sending offs, to all the talk of a Chelsea move, which I regret getting involved in, and the own goal in the cup final.

"Without the setbacks, I don't think I'd have achieved as much as I have."

Gerrard can go for ten more years - Benitez

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard wants to mark 10 years in the first team by bringing the title back to Anfield for the first time since 1990.

The 28-year-old made his debut at Anfield a decade ago on Saturday as a substitute in a win against Blackburn.

"My priority is to win the Premier League. We believe we're good enough to challenge," told the Daily Express.

"Everyone wants it so badly. I want it because I've never won it. I don't want to finish my career without one."

Liverpool have not won the title since 1990, and Gerrard has set his heart on adding that accolade to the Champions League, Uefa Cup, FA Cups and League Cups he has won in a glittering Anfield career.

The Reds are level on points with leaders Chelsea, with just over of a third of the Premier League season played.

606: DEBATE

"Getting involved in the title race and staying involved in it is a completely different challenge to what we are used to at Liverpool.

"To finish in the top four you can have a defeat and it does not hit you too bad. Two successive defeats in the title race and it could be over.

"But we are in there and everybody wants to make sure that's the case at the end of the season.

"I'm coming up to 10 years and it doesn't feel like that. It's flown. I'm sure the next five or six will be exactly the same, that's why I have to make the most of every minute I've got."
